Unnax was founded in Barcelona in 2017, building Open Banking and Embedded Finance solutions for businesses in Spain and Latin America. Since joining Powens in 2024, the two teams have worked together to build a combined platform.
Under the Powens brand, 300+ customers gain access to a broader, leading European Open Finance platform uniquely built around three connected capabilities: financial data access, ID & fraud checks, and embedded payments. The combined platform provides full European coverage, connecting to 1,800+ banks and financial institutions across 12+ countries, and supports use cases including credit scoring, onboarding, cash management, accounting reconciliation, wealth management, PFM, cashback, and payments.
The first step of the rebranding transformation started with the inauguration of Powens’ office in January 2026 in the center of Barcelona, reinforcing the Catalan capital’s role as a key strategic hub for Powens. The Barcelona team of 64 employees, including several senior decision-makers and leadership roles, continues in place. All existing customer contracts, service-level agreements, and account relationships remain unchanged.
The transition also reflects Powens’ increased investment in embedded payments. In 2025, the group processed over 6.2 million payments totaling €2.57 billion, a 67% year-on-year increase. Open Banking payments grew 297% over the same period.
This growth speaks to a broader shift in how financial services are built and delivered: Businesses no longer just need access to financial data. They need data, insights, and payments working as one coherent experience, not as separate products. At the scale Powens operates across Europe and Latin America, that convergence is precisely what the platform is designed to deliver, meeting the growing complexity businesses face today.
“Our goal has always been to build the leading Open Finance infrastructure platform in Europe by bringing together data, payments, and embedded financial capabilities under one roof. One brand, one roadmap, one team. That’s how we get there,” said Jean Guillaume, CEO of Powens.
Powens combines Open Finance and payment capabilities through its regulated entities, including Electronic Money Institution capabilities (via Unnax) and Payment Institution authorisations from the Banco de España and the French ACPR.
